Working remotely

Hello, I am a 20-year-old Filipino student (studying online in a Filipino school) and have been a resident here in Taiwan for almost 7 years now. It's a long story as to why we're here in the first place. That aside, I'm looking to take up freelancing jobs online through several online marketplaces for employees (freelancer.com, upwork, etc).

Disclaimer, I've never had a job before. I don't know how any of these work, and I've had a professional friend of mine tell me explicitly that Taiwan is super strict about laws and employment regulations in contrast to other countries they've had to work with (US, Canada, Australia, etc), and I'm scared. What if I get myself and my family deported because turns out I'm working illegally?

My questions are:

Since I won't be working for Taiwanese companies and instead for international businesses, do I need to pay taxes for the Taiwanese government? Do I need a Taiwan permit to work remotely? Is there anything I should know about working remotely in general?
